There’s something I find particularly enchanting about this song. It’s both vulnerable and honest, filled with longing, and yet searching for stillness.

My relationship with being ‘alone’ has evolved quite dramatically throughout life. For many a moonrise, the idea of being alone was filled with thoughts of unworthiness, of fear and discomfort, of somehow being unlovable.

And the world I know is filled with an endless array of temptations and pleasures; innumerable distractions from getting to create a sense of peace and understanding when any seeming negative emotions and experiences arise. It would seem that it’s very easy to avoid and escape getting to know the very nature of one’s true self. Who am I beyond the noise of the mind? Beyond the sensations of the body? Beyond the array of emotions and feelings I am experiencing? Beyond the ideas and beliefs of who I am?

Well I certainly don’t profess to have the slightest idea. Nor would I feel comfortable offering up any sort of seeming ‘wisdom’ in this regard. But what I am aware of is that the more time I spend in contemplation, embracing and exploring my aloneness, and all that arises as I do so…

the more I become aware of who I am NOT.

and this is absolutely liberating.
